Summer is in full swing
Extreme temps and continued dry weather make the perfect soup for a burn ban imposed in our area. With large grassy and wooded areas, our county is prime real estate for fires, so be smart and follow the ban in place.
Richards United Methodist Church kicks off their Vacation Bible School program this week for Pre-k through sixth graders. The free program is open to all children in the community, with registration open at arrival.
Union Grove Baptist Church ended their VBS program successfully with 30 plus children in attendance, with a large amount of families attending the family style dinner served afterwards.
Richards ISD kicked off summer workouts - open for RISD students and athletes. The program concentrates on strength and conditioning as well as fundamental skills. Coaches and athletes work Monday - Thursday 9 a.m. - 11 a.m. Several members of the high school Lady Panther Volleyball team are competing in the Aggieland Summer Volleyball League. The team consists of six members – at the high school level, and currently boasts an undefeated record of 6-0. There is also a junior high team.
Summer heat, and summer fun makes for a great recipe for a cold refreshing treat, and our community welcomed The Cold Spot, a new and local shaved ice business. Tapping in summer fun and serving fresh snow cones with fun flavors like Tutti Fruitti, Bahama Mama and others, they are perched outside of Haynies General Store open Fridays and Saturdays noon - 6 p.m.
