Whitehall News

It is a real blessing being from a small community. I decided I can go to the Whitehall Store and not worry about how I am dressed. I had an old Aggie shirt I made sleeveless and it had Clorox white dots, old blue jeans that have turned light blue also with the white spots and rubber boots with polka dots on them. That was my outfit for the day. Mr. Frank is so kind, he complimented me on my matching outfit. Evidently, he was referring to the Clorox white polka dots. I accepted his goodwill as a compliment.

The yard is mowed but no weed eating, or trimmed limbs and one slightly painful sunburn. At my age you would think that I would have a little more sense.

The Queen of Hearts still does not have a winner. There are 18 cards remaining in the locked case.

Jordan and Kaleigh came to see me Saturday. Grandparents are always proud to show off their grandchildren. It’s funny because one man told Jordan to come back when he grew up and another asked me why I didn’t feed him. One of the customers was around Jordan when he was little or shall I say young, and he would come to the house and do things like carve pumpkins. When I pointed to Jordan that night, he was shocked at how big he is now.

Whitehall’s own Kathy Wells was present for the Two Rivers Heritage Foundation’s history mixer that was held Tuesday, July 23, at Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4006 in a joint meeting of veterans and the Post’s Auxiliary. The mixer featured U.S. Army (Retired) Colonel Barry Graham, who presented the story of two Texas Aggies, Class of 1943, who are still missing in action from World War II Navasota’s in the Solomon Islands. Graham is a lifetime member of both the Veterans of Foreign War as well as the Military Order of the Purple Heart. A video was part of Graham’s presentation.

Congratulations to Mr. Robert and Mrs. Bessie Lys, celebrating their 64th anniversary Aug. 3. Happy day to both of you and thank you, Mrs. Lys, for stopping me and telling me of your special day. I am sure there are many people who remember our former game warden.

There are some perks to planning a class reunion. One is all the hugs you get and two is the free breakfast. Thank you, Vincent Ruiz, for the breakfast. I enjoyed all the company.

As of this writing, Tony Lambert’s brother is still in the hospital and prayers are requested. Thank you.
