School is out and the fair is in session. Brooklyn Byars-Cosby, going into her senior year at Anderson-Shiro was crowned Grimes County Fair Queen Saturday night. Congratulations to Brooklyn and all the participants in the contest.
Here’s a quick little story about Brooklyn. When she was a little girl, I worked at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Plantersville. The Cosby’s would drop her off at our house in town before they headed to their jobs atA-S. On my way to work I would drop Brooklyn off at Sonya Floyd’s day care on FM 1774. Between Anderson and Sonya’s house, we would sing nursery rhymes. Her favorite was the “Three Little Kittens” and every morning I would ask her which one she wanted to do first, and of course, it was always the same, “Three Little Kittens.” It doesn’t seem like that long ago. To this day, I can’t look at her and not think about those three little kittens.
Congratulations to Christian Schroeder, son of Ryan and Angela Schroeder of Anderson, who won $500 at the high school calf scramble at the rodeo Sunday. Thanks to John and Sharon Atkinson of Mid-Tex Livestock for sponsoring the event.
