Civic Club meeting rescheduled to Aug. 31
Iola Food Pantry monthly food distribution was held at the Iola Missionary Baptist Church Fellowship Hall Aug. 19. It was certainly a success. Around 92 people showed up for a variety of food including meat, canned food, produce and more. There were even watermelons. Food distributed will feed around 235 people. The pantry is open the third Saturday of each month from 9-11 a.m. This month Iola Church of Christ were among the workers assisting the pantry.
Anyone needing a helping hand are invited to come out and receive assistance. Each Friday before the pantry opens volunteers gather to set up the pantry.
Orphans Friend Masonic Lodge No. 17 will have their lodge meeting Monday, Sept. 4. Their meeting will begin with a covered dish meal at 6 p.m. and will be followed by their business meeting. All Masons are invited to attend.
Bedias Masonic Lodge No. 651 will meet Tuesday, Sept. 5. The meeting will begin with a covered dish meal at 6:30 p.m. and will be followed by their lodge meeting. All Masons are invited to attend.
The Keith Civic Club meeting was postponed until Aug. 31, due to construction on the building that wasn’t complete in time. The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. with a covered dish meal. The business meeting will follow. All members are expected, and visitors are always welcome. Come out and have a good time with your friends and neighbors.
Martins Prairie Baptist Church Cemetery Association will have their Memorial Day service and annual meeting Sunday, Sept. 3, beginning at 10:30 a.m. The Confederate Veterans buried in the cemetery will be honored. Betty Beene will be in charge. There will be also be a short business meeting.
Following the service, lunch will be served. Donations to the working fund may be sent to Martins Prairie Baptist Church Cemetery Association in care of Darlene Lavender, 14389 FM 244, Iola Texas, 77861. Do hope everyone will be able to attend.
Travis Stewart, son of Sewell and Linda Stewart, underwent surgery in Dallas Monday, Aug. 21. All went well. His wife, parents, son and Pastor Jeff Morgan of Evergreen Baptist Church were present during the surgery. He is recovering at the hospital. Do remember him in your prayers.
Iola residents were sorry to learn of the death of John D. Bertling who passed away Tuesday, Aug. 22. His body was taken to Nobles Funeral Chapel in Navasota. Do remember his loved ones in your prayers. He was the owner of Best Material in Iola. He was also a member of Bedias Masonic Lodge No. 651. I will give more details in next week’s column.
