Happy Thanksgiving! Hope your day is a special one. Enjoy this holiday with family and friends. but be careful when traveling.

It seems Grimes County has more traffic now and more 18 wheelers. Thursday as I pulled off our dirt road, there were cones down the center lane. It appeared there may be construction, but no one was flagging. I traveled to the bridges when I was met by a pilot truck in my lane. The only problem was he had a long line of cars behind him, and there was no way for me to follow him. The truck stopped and the driver got out of his truck and came to my car to tell me to stay in the opposite lane. He said when the line of cars passes to get in the right-hand lane because a big truck was coming. Be cautious around construction.

In other news, I got a phone call Thursday from a friend asking me where I was going. I was heading out of Anderson toward Navasota at the time in route to the grocery store. She informed me there was a very bad wreck near the old Country Moose. She told me a deadly wreck had occurred around a curve and at that time life flight had taken someone away. Please be careful as there are more people than there used to be on our little country roads. Driving too fast can be deadly. Please keep those in this wreck and families of those involved in this accident in your prayers.

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas. This year Dec. 14 will be the Richards Christmas parade. Come out and enjoy the parade or participate in it. If you would like to participate, meet at the school at 12:30 p.m. to line up for the parade.

Debbie Kessler said following the parade there will be other activities including fun and fellowship. At the Haynie’s General Store parking lot there will be an evening of worship, Christmas music and giveaways. Drinks will also be available. This event is being made possible by Hope Tabernacle in Montgomery. Debbie Kessler has been busy organizing this fun event for the Richards community. Come out for a fun day and many activities.

As I sit by the warm fire, I reflect on holidays gone by and my thoughts turn back to the real reason for all the season. Remember to give thanks to our Father.

The Bays Chapel United Methodist Church, 24263, Bays Chapel Road in Richards invites you to enjoy a live Nativity and other Christmas activities Dec. 21, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
