Read moreGrimes County Crime Stoppers had the opportunity to participate in the “Stop the Violence Navasota TX” rally Saturday afternoon at Friendship Baptist Church. It was organized by Terrence Creeks, Sr., the father of a recent shooting victim. Creeks is to be applauded for taking steps to bring A New Direction Ministry here to share their strategy on how Navasotans can diffuse what Rev. Coleman Cox called a “ticking time bomb.”
Given the subject matter, you would have expected a packed house. Not so, but the ability to stream live on Facebook reached the interested who were hesitant to attend. I find it disheartening that many folks in the line of fire, so to speak, won’t read the newspaper with Matt Ybarra’s coverage of the event, and many who will read it may think what’s going on has nothing to do with them. Keep in mind that you don’t have to be sitting on top of a powder keg when it explodes to get burned!

Greg Abbot has issued a disaster declaration for Texas counties affected by the early February ice storm and is seeking a federal declaration as well for areas in Southeast Texas affected by rare January tornadoes. The ice storm caused considerable damage to property and power outages in the affected areas. The declaration for ice-storm damaged counties includes Denton, Hays, Henderson, Milam, Smith, Travis and Williamson counties.

Treating people as they should be treated is where respect begins and ends. We see this as an example in “The Golden Rule” – do unto others as you would have them do unto you. It’s the forward thinking of this, the concept of putting others first, that puts the power in our hands to do good or to do evil. We have it in our nature to do good and that is one of the primary things that makes us all human.

The preliminary chit-chat with the doc yielded more information than I could possibly have anticipated! I’m sad to report that yet ANOTHER of his physicians affiliated with a corporate-owned Brazos Valley medical practice is retiring. This one, however, wasn’t riding off into the sunset as quietly as his predecessors. He confirmed what my gut has been telling me for more than a year now – Grimes County, we have a health care problem!
