Texas State Trooper Chad Walker, age 38, was shot multiple times in the line of duty while stopping to assist a driver near Mexia Friday, March 26. He succumbed to his injuries Wednesday, March 31. Texas Governor Greg Abbott requested all law enforcement officers turn on their red and blue flashing lights Thursday, April 1, at 1 p.m. for one minute to honor Trooper Walker and all officers in Texas. DPS Troopers and GCSO Deputies gathered in front of the Grimes County Courthouse while Navasota Police Department gathered at Navasota City Hall to pay tribute to Walker. Martin’s Sweet Shop in Navasota received a warm welcome as a new member of the Navasota Grimes County Chamber of Commerce with a recent ribbon cutting. Along with that recognition came a proclamation presented by Navasota Mayor Bert Miller which proclaimed April 1, 2021 as Martin Price Day in Navasota in recognition of Mr. Price’s 50th anniversary in the ice cream business.
