On Jan. 5, 2025, President Joe Biden signed into law H.R. 82, the Social Security Fairness Act. With the stroke of a pen, H.R. 82 repealed the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) for police, firefighters, school personnel and other public employees, allowing them to draw from social security contributions paid before, during or after employment in the government or education sector.

The 2025 Grimes County Mobility Plan has been posted to the Grimes County Government website and is available for viewing and receipt of public comments. The plan, recommended for adoption by County Engineer Jon Stieber and the Grimes County Development Review Group, is “a 50+ year strategy that identifi es and classifies transportation corridors and preserves rights-of-way for future development.”

Navasota Public Library hosted Comic–Con, Jan. 25, at the Navasota Center. The comic book convention allowed fans to dress as their favorite comic book characters. Merchandise, food, games and movies targeted science fiction fans. There were hands-on comic book and light saber workshops.

Many portions of Texas, including Grimes County, were treated to a winter wonderland Jan. 20–21. Temperatures dipped into the 20’s and snowfall accumulated enough for lots of fun in the snow including building snowmen, sledding and snowball fights.
