High Point Elementary is seeking donations for their Angel Tree. They need sponsors for approximately 100 students who are in need this holiday season. Robert Moore’s history in Texas dates back at least to 1836 when he was with Sam Houston at the Battle of San Jacinto. He apparently became a friend of Houston, as the family history claims Houston spent weeks at a time with the Moore family at Washington on the Brazos. Moore was granted a league of land in Bell County for his San Jacinto service.

Texas legislators are off to the races, filing more than 850 bills on Monday, the first day of filing season for the 88th session, which begins Jan. 10.
The Austin American-Statesman reported the potential laws, constitutional amendments and propositions address everything from property taxes to border security, access to guns, education and health care.
Plantersville Christmas Parade is scheduled for Dec. 10, beginning at 10 a.m. The parade route begins at the Plantersville- Stoneham Fire Department.

The Grimes County Senior Center will hold their annual fundraiser Wednesday, Nov. 16 at the center, 129 S. Main St. in Anderson. A hot dog lunch including chips, dessert and a drink will be served from 11 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. A one hot dog lunch is $10, and a two hot dog lunch is $12. There will also be a silent auction and raffle. Tickets are $5 for a book of six tickets. Raffle drawing will be held at 2 p.m. For more information call the center, 936-873-2818.

Why are two youthful brothers buried side by side with matching gravestones in the Farquhar Cemetery? They were born two and a half years apart - Sidney Munroe Hendley, Aug. 14, 1836, and Thomas Timothy Hendley, Feb. 22, 1939, both in Mississippi. Their parents were Ivah Jean (Wells) and William Hendley. Ivah Jean was a sister of Farquhar’s wife Huldah.

The annual Bruce Family Reunion was held at Keith Community Center Sunday, Nov. 6, with approximately 50 family members and friends attending. Areunion was enjoyed by all. The covered dish meal was good as always. Some attendees were descendants of the late Melvin and Edna Bruce. Their daughter, Cora Lucas, was the last of their children still living. Following the meal, there was an auction of a variety of items that will help fund future reunions.
