Campsis radicans, trumpet vine or trumpet creeper, is a perennial Texas native. It is a deciduous woody vine that can get 40 feet high and 10 feet wide using aerial roots. Its opposite leaves have 9 to 11 leaflets with sawed edges. It climbs by wrapping its stem around a support. If a stem touches the ground it will root. The vine is strong enough to bring down some structures. In Latin Campsis means "to curve". Radicans means "stems with roots".

Read moreLast Friday I had the pleasure of a full day with Jackson. Jack is seven months old and was booted out of daycare in College Station because he had a low-grade fever. His mom and Kaleigh both teach at Wellborn Junior High and his mom was an assistant dance instructor at Navasota when Paige was there. Little Jack had to get used to Gingi but I guess I did okay because he did not want to sleep. Kacie says the reason that little ones do not want to sleep here is because they don’t want to miss anything. Little Man was not too sure about the baby.

The next few months are packed with several fish fry gatherings throughout the county. As a reminder, Salem Lutheran Church will be hosting their annual gathering Friday, March 24, at the White Hall Community Center. Read moreArea residents were sorry to learn of the death of Rev. Bill Gene Adkisson who passed away Saturday, Feb. 11, at age 84. He was formerly the Pastor of Evergreen Free Will Baptist Church – which is now Evergreen Baptist Church. Adkisson was born July 3, 1938 to Rudolph and Alice Adkisson. He married Peggy Marshall and they spent many years of happiness together until she passed away Feb. 27, 2016. After they returned to Missouri, he was the Pastor of Evergreen for 7 years, from 1997-2004. They were owners of First Storage Facility in Iola until they moved away. His funeral was held Wednesday, Feb. 15. His burial was in the IOOF Cemetery in Charleston, MO. Do remember his children and other family members in your prayers.
