City of Navasota is partnering with Living in Triumph for their 3rd annual Easter Egg Hunt Friday, April 7, from noon to 2 p.m. at August Horst Park. The free event includes food, fun, photos, prizes and more.

The annual Iola VFD Cookoff Fundraiser was held March 17-18 and was well attended despite cold weather. A good amount of money was raised to help with departmental expenses. Thanks to all who assisted. There were not as many items donated for the auction as last year, but hopefully that will increase next year.

Our man of many languages, Mike Kurtin, returned home last week from his trip to Poland. He attended his cousin's Confirmation in Gdansk and visited with family. Later he attended his class reunion in Lublin and was excited to see everyone again. There has not been a gathering in 3 years due to the pandemic.

Jimmie Dale Harris of Columbia, Texas with a familial connection to Grimes County, was recently buried in the historic Stephenson/Harris Cemetery located in the very south of the county off CR 325. This small family cemetery juts out into my hayfield.
Jimmie Dale was considered the Stephenson/Harris family genealogist. The cemetery’s history is closing in on two centuries. This cemetery is mostly about a historic Grimes County citizen’s descendant, Captain James Bell Stephenson, an early Texas Indian fighter and Confederate officer.

I found the most beautiful bluebonnet field. It is on the right going towards William Penn, FM 390, and it is solid blue. When I first noticed it, I thought about stopping, but there is not much space to park, and I was running late. Near Kettler Road there was a field of orange and then when you get to the outskirts of Somerville, there is one part on the side of Hwy 36 that is mostly pink wildflowers with blue, orange and yellow wildflowers sprinkled throughout.

The Keith Civic Club monthly meeting is Thursday, March 23, at Keith Community Center. The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. with a covered dish meal followed by their business meeting. All members are expected, and visitors are always welcome. Come out and meet with your friends and neighbors.
